The property has several enormous Texas red oaks. When found growing in uplands, these trees need to remain as part of a woodlands. Excessive clearing can cause the tree to die from drought and heat stress. Therefore, we have begun the process of thinning brush around the tree, but have kept the roots shaded. This fall we will continue thinning and cover the roots with 2" of shredded cedar. We will also plant understory trees that will serve to offer more shade.
